Baked Chicken Goujons

Actually…….I’m not a snack kind of person. I have 3 meals a day. And one of my new year resolution is to change my intake into  5 smaller meals. So far Im successful…..though sometimes it goes to 4. Hmm…….as part of it Im having more fruits and salads. Yumm……!!!!! And all that goodness has started showing up. Yippee for that……..!!!

Coming to snacks……I just wanted to have this very much. It’s very easy and requires very less work. Just yesterday I saw the Chicken Goujon in the freezer section. But I don pick them. I always love and prepare our family meals.

Goujons are deep-fried breaded chicken or fish. Hmm…..I went for the baked variety as I don like deep-fried food. Prepare them and pop in the oven. I made the outer crust spicier and hot, so sonny nibbled on just the chicken.

Preparation time : 15 min
Cooking time : 25 min

What :

  •      300 gm Chicken Breasts
  •      8 Brown Bread Slices
  •      3 tbsp Flour
  •      3 large Eggs
  •      1 tsp Ginger Paste
  •      1 tsp Garlic Paste
  •      1 tsp Green Chilli Paste
  •      2 tsp flavoured Butter (optional)
  •      2 tsp Lime Juice
  •      2 tsp Red Chilli Flakes
  •      Salt

How :

        Cut the chicken into strips and add the salt, pastes (ginger, garlic, green chilli ), lemon juice, butter and mix well and keep aside for 30 min.

        Tear off the bread into slices and put in a mixer and blitz till you have a bowl of soft bread crumbs.

        In a bowl, add the chilli flakes, flour and bread crumbs and mix well. In another bowl beat the eggs nicely.

        Preheat the oven to 180C and line a greased tray with greaseproof paper.

        Take each chicken strip and dip it in the beaten egg and roll it in the breadcrumb mixture and coat it generously with the breadcrumbs and place it on the tray. Repeat with all the chicken strips. Bake it in the oven for 20-25 min or until the top of the chicken has browned. Hmm……Don forget to turn them on to the other side, midway.

        Serve with your favorite dip or its good on its own.

Tips & Notes :

**   Instead of baking them, they can be pan-fried for 3 mins on each side or just go ahead and deep fry. ( Deep fried food is definitely…..the tastier lot)

**  Steps 1 is optional. Step 2 can be omitted if you have ready breadcrumbs. But remember the fresher ones take just a min to do.

**   Adjust the spice levels as required.
